- In Denmark, people stand on chairs and jump from them at midnight. Some families also break the dishes they have just used during the dinner.
- In Germany, people drop melted lead into cold water to see what shape is generated. The shape may predict the future: heart shapes symbolize marriage, round shapes denote good luck, anchor shapes tell that you need help and a cross signifies someone’s sad demise.
- In Puerto Rico, people throw buckets of water out of their window in order to clean the odds of the last year as well as get the spirits out of the home.
